| What’s Wrong with Registry Information on the Invite? |

You’ve been cautioned against including registry information on the wedding invitations, but you’ll happily shout your gift choices to anyone who asks, so what’s the point of the policy? The reasoning is elementary. Invitations have one very pure intention: They request the pleasure of someone’s company or the honour of someone’s presence. To combine an invitation with an explicit request for presents is to taint the purity of the welcome and turn it into an explicit exchange- “if you come, you have to give me something off this list”- and that seems rather mercenary. Keep these two things separate. Registries and invitations have nothing to do with each other. There are other ways to get your registry information out into world (through the friends and family grapevine, on a wedding website, or through other casual communication with guests) |
