Trend Alert: Chic Bridal Gloves PDF Print
Monday, 15 December 2014 20:58

Deciding what kind of "bridal style" you want to evoke on your big day can be a tough task. Do you want to look romantic in a beautiful, flowy dress, classic up-do and a pink-hued bouquet? Or, is a modern bridal style more your thing (think a simple, sleek gown, dark-coloured lips and an edgy floral crown)? Whatever style you decide on, one thing is certain: you'll want to make sure you look as trendy but as classic as possible.

There's a fine line between looking fashionable and looking traditional enough that you won't regret your bridal style choices 10 years down the road. We think we've come up with the perfect solution: bridal gloves! Not only are they a chic, classic choice on your big day, but you can choose to don them for as long (or as little) as you choose! For example, if you're planning on getting hitched in a traditional, religious venue, wearing a pair of long bridal gloves can help give you a more modest look while still looking ultra-fashionable.

We know, we know: bridal gloves seem old-fashioned and stuffy. But have you seen the new styles and choices that are available now? The look is anything but old school.

Do you prefer gloves that are more modest and chic (a la the beautiful Audrey Hepburn) or something more lacy and modern?

5 Awesome New Wedding Traditions PDF Print
Monday, 08 December 2014 00:00

Planning a "traditional" wedding doesn't quite mean the same thing that it used to. Thirty years ago, a traditional wedding meant a formal ceremony, a reception dinner at a banquet hall, a three-tiered wedding cake and very few (if any!) personal details that would differentiate one wedding from another.

Today, the word tradition is used much more loosely and encompasses much broader ideas. For example, while it's a steadfast tradition to have a cake at any wedding, more and more brides are opting to serve things like cupcakes, cake pops, cookies and pies. This spin on a traditional custom is what's making modern-day weddings so exciting and unique!
Below, we've put together a list of five new wedding traditions that you'll want to include in your wedding. And the best part? They all require you to get creative and include details that are personal and unique to you!
1. First Look Photos
The trend towards late afternoon ceremonies and early evening cocktail hours and receptions means there's less time for formal photos between saying your vows and sitting down for dinner. The solution? First look photos! There's nothing more romantic than having your photographer capture the moment when you see your groom-to-be for the first time on that special day. Add your own unique spin to your first look photos by incorporating balloons or using your venue as a gorgeous backdrop!

2. Wedding Monograms
We talked a couple weeks ago about wedding monograms and how stamping, embossing or embroidering a  monogram onto even the most basic wedding detail can instantly turn it into something super personal and unique. From cocktail napkins to pillows, envelopes to favours, the monogramming possibilities are endless!

3. Choreographed Dances
Remember that now infamous video of the wacky bridal party that danced down the aisle to Chris Brown's "Forever"? Though they seemed totally crazy at the time, what emerged from their stunt is a new trend in wedding dances that is anything but traditional. From awesomely fun mother-son dances (a la Solange Knowles) to epic first dances that have become youtube sensations, we definitely hope this trend is here to stay!
Style Me Pretty | The Knot
4. Late-Night Food Stations
Late-night stations are all the rage right now! Let's face it: after all that dancing and drinking, your guests will need a little something to fill them up before they head home for the night. From tacos to hamburgers, french fries, pizza or even a mashed potato station, there's no limit to the different types of late-night food available for you to offer guests. If you and your groom are avid italian food connoisseurs, why not offer guests mini meatball sandwiches? Love hotdogs? Ask your venue if it offers a dress-your-own hotdog station complete with all the traditional fixings!

5. Sparkler Send Off
What better way to bid your guests adieu than with a grand exit that features sparklers! Not only does a sparkler send off make for a stunning photo op, but its also a super fun way to get your guests involved! Make sure to check with your venue beforehand and designate specific guests to be in charge of lighting all the sparklers at once with a butane lighter! Happy sparkling!
                                                                                                                                    RaeNovate | Style Me Pretty

DIY Pinecone Name Tags PDF Print
Thursday, 04 December 2014 00:00

Planning a winter wedding? These pinecone name tags are perfect for a wintery rustic tablescape! Gather your bridesmaids and get them crafting - these tags are a super easy and fun DIY project. See below for our tutorial:

alt alt

What you'll need:

· Pinecones (I bought a bag of them at Michaels)

· Name tags

· Hacksaw

alt alt

Start by soaking the pinecones in a bowl of cold water for approximately 10 minutes (this helps make the sawing process so much easier!). Next, use a hacksaw to saw a slit down the middle of the pinecone (because the pinecones are damp, they are a little sturdier and won't break apart as easily). Cut the slit about 3/4 of an inch.

Display your pinecone name tags so its easy for your guests to grab them and head to their assigned tables! Aren't they pretty?
